Home-cooked food made with love is always wonderful, but maintaining complete nutritional balance every single day can be challenging.
TailTrums meals are carefully prepared with balanced ingredients, functional additions, measured portions, and consistency that helps support your dog’s long-term health. We are here to translate your home-cooked love into a functional, balanced diet without the hassle or worry - the same home-cooked love, but designed around their health needs.
While chicken and rice may help temporarily during stomach upset, dogs require a much wider nutritional profile for long-term health. TailTrums meals include quality proteins, vegetables, functional ingredients, healthy fats, herbs, and balanced meal compositions.
Yes. We use high-quality chicken breast to provide lean, digestible protein for dogs. It is great for daily intake.
Depending on the recipe, our meals may include chicken breast, eggs, lamb, paneer, fish, and other fresh protein sources.
Many TailTrums meals include Golden Paste - a blend commonly made using turmeric, coconut oil, and black pepper. Golden Paste is widely known for its anti-inflammatory and immunity-supporting properties, along with a subtle flavour profile.
We recommend a gradual transition based on your dog’s adaptability and digestion cycle.
Start with around 20–25% TailTrums meal and the rest their regular meal. Slowly increase the TailTrums portion as your dog gets comfortable with the new flavours and texture. You can increase the quantity by 10–20% in every next or alternate meal and complete the switch over your desired period.
Generally, it takes about a week for a full transition.
Fresh food supports better digestion, improved hydration, shinier coat, higher energy levels, better palatability, and easier nutrient absorption. A good diet helps support a longer, healthier life and may also reduce unnecessary vet visits.
The number of meals depends on your dog’s lifestyle, age, routine, and comfort. Some dogs do well with one meal, while most adult dogs are fed twice a day. Puppies may need three to four smaller meals a day.
Feeding quantity depends on your dog’s ideal adult body weight, age, activity level, metabolism, lifestyle, and overall health condition.
As a simple rule of thumb, most adult dogs need around 2% to 3% of their ideal body weight per day for maintenance. This total daily quantity can be divided into 2 meals a day for adult dogs, or adjusted as per your dog’s routine.
First, determine your dog’s ideal weight - the weight they should be, not necessarily their current weight, especially if they are overweight or underweight.
As a general guide:
• Inactive / Senior Dogs: Around 2% of body weight
• Average / Moderately Active Dogs: Around 2.5% of body weight
• Highly Active / Working Dogs: Around 3% or more of body weight
For example, for a moderately active 20 kg dog, the calculation would be:
20 kg × 2.5% = 500 grams of food per day
This can be split into 2 meals of 250 grams each.
For puppies under 6 months, the requirement is usually higher because they are growing and need more energy. They may need around 4% to 5% of their current body weight, divided into 3 to 4 smaller meals per day.
For senior dogs, the requirement is usually lower, so it is best to stay closer to the lower end, around 2% of their ideal body weight, unless advised otherwise.
The best way to check if the quantity is right is to observe your dog’s body condition. You should be able to gently feel their ribs under a thin layer of muscle, and they should have a visible waist when viewed from above and the side.
If the ribs, hip bones, and tail base are too visible, increase the food slightly. If the ribs are difficult to feel and there is no visible waist, reduce the food slightly.
For absolute precision, especially with puppies, senior dogs, medical conditions, or home-cooked meals, it is always best to consult your vet or speak to our team for portion guidance.
Many dogs with sensitive stomachs do well on fresh food because it can be easier to digest. However, every dog is different, so we recommend a gradual transition. We provide meals for all kinds of palates and tummies.
